How to Play Red Alert 1 Online
Red Alert 1 Online NOTES:

1) Red Alert Online does not work well with routers and some connection types. Consider connecting directly from your cable/DSL modem to your PC or setting up a DMZ on your router.
If you have a router and you have connectivity problems after following the instructions above click here for a guide to configuring your routher and firewall to play C&C games

2) Red Alert must be running while a game is set up in Westwood Chat.

3) Registering your nickname.
Registering a nickname on XWIS is as simple as logging in.
You no longer need to use the Westwood Registration pages, or the account creation menu in your game.
Simply connect to XWIS, and login with your desired username and password. Once you have logged in that nickname is automatically registered for you.

Install Instructions for playing ONLINE:

1) Install Westwood Chat software available for download at http://xwis.net/downloads/Westwood_Chat-4.221.exe

2) Launch Red Alert from The First Decade menu.

3) Select Internet Game from the Main Menu. If you get a message stating that you must install Westwood Chat and register an account, cancel the message and press ALT + TAB to manually launch Westwood Chat.

4) C&C will minimize and Westwood Chat will launch. Log in to Westwood Chat with your XWIS account. If Westwood Chat does not launch, manually launch it.

5) Create a Red Alert game. Click the ‘Start the Game’ button after the other player has accepted the game options to begin play.

6) Or if you do not want to create a game, you can join a Red Alert game. Click ‘Accept options’ when ready to begin the game.

7) After the host launches the game both players will see Red Alert maximize with the following message display.

8) Red Alert will then minimize again and Westwood Chat will display the following message.

9) Red Alert will then maximize and the user will be in game. If the game does not maximize click the ‘Red Alert’ taskbar button to maximize it.

10) After the game is over the following error message will appear. Click OK and shut down Command and Conquer via the Task Manager and exit Westwood Chat. Restart the process from step 4 to play another game.
